Every year the BLF Foundation offers two scholarships — the Susan Moore-Fontenot and Richard Fontenot Honorary Scholarship.
Scholarship applications will open each year on August 20th, with a deadline for submission by December 31. Each year, one male and one female scholarship award recipient will be notified by January 15 via US mail and email. Scholarship monetary awards will be distributed by January 30th to the University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, or Austin Community College District financial office. Scholarship technology awards will be given at the annual Developing Future Leaders Mentorship Program Banquet.
Each applicant will be evaluated on criteria that includes:
- A University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, or Austin Community College undergraduate college student
- Creative writing ability
- Demonstrated need for financial assistance
- Involvement in the campus community
- Minority college student
- Self-motivation in completing challenging coursework
Each award recipient will receive:
- AÂ $1,000 scholarship award
- A brand new Apple MacBook Air
- Automatic acceptance to the Developing Future Leaders Mentorship Program

Scholarship Criteria
To apply for the scholarship, you will need submit an application online, respond to three (3) short answer questions, and upload the documents listed below.

This scholarship will be awarded to one female applicant who embodies the characteristics below:
- First generation college student
- High scholastic achievement (3.0 minimum GPA)
- Individual determination to succeed
To apply, you must be an undergraduate female student at The University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, or Austin Community College District. By applying and if awarded the scholarship, you are also committing to the BLF Foundation’s Developing Future Leaders Mentorship Program.


Richard Fontenot Honorary Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to one male applicant who embodies the characteristics below:
- Entrepreneurship qualities
- High scholastic achievement (3.0 minimum GPA)
- Leadership roles within organizations
To apply, you must be an undergraduate male student at The University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, or Austin Community College District. By applying and if awarded the scholarship, you are also committing to the BLF Foundation’s Developing Future Leaders Mentorship Program.
